Who are the target audience for the thriller genre?

Personally, I think, in general, the age and gender, can’t be classified by constrict categories – it’s individual to each person, of how much they can withstand, in relation to gore, violence, action, psychological mind games, etc.
Individual people may deal with aspects of thrillers better than others, regardless of their age.

Having said this, I do think that there should be a cut off point (which there is due to the bbfc) that stops children under the age of 15 seeing a thriller (most thrillers have the certificate of a 15 or an 18). Although some adults can’t deal with the themes shown in some thriller films, they have the choice whether they want to view a film or not. I don’t think it’s fair for people under 15 to be subjected to something that may affect them long after seeing the film.

I think the audience for thrillers can be so varied, because there are many sub-genres from the thriller genre. I don’t think gender matters at all, as a girl, I love watching thrillers and action films, so I think it’s unfair to say that some types of thriller films would be aimed more at males than females. People who like action or horror, and like to have to think about what is going on in the film, and people who embrace psychological mind games, should watch thriller films – because depending on what type of thriller you want to see, there is something for everyone.
